Some days we read and represent little story books. Reading aloud to children is a wonderful shared activity and it's an important form of stimulation.
When we read, our children hear us using many different emotions and expressive sounds, which fosters social and emotional development. Reading also invites children to look, point, touch, and answer questions — all of which promote social development and thinking skills. And children improves language skills by imitating sounds, recognizing pictures, and learning words.
Here there are some of the books we've been reading:
- A taste of the moon, by Michael Grejniec.
A book so magic and delicious as the full moon. The animals that live in the jungle show us how the things we share always taste much better.
- Butterfly butterfly, by Petr Horácek.
Lucy sees a beautiful butterfly in the garden, along with a bright green beetle, a brilliant blue dragonfly, some red ladybugs, and many more flying and crawling things. But when will the radiant butterfly appear again? Petr Horácek uses his trademark saturated hues and simple shapes to create an enticing view of the world of colors.
- The very hungry caterpillar, by Eric Carle.
This early work by a premier author marked an exciting breakthrough in the traditional children’s book format. Carle uses clever cutout pages to depict a caterpillar eating his way through the calendar week. Caterpillar also brilliantly displays Carle’s ability to integrate a concept (days of the week), scientific information (the life cycle of a caterpillar), and an appealing story.
- My Daddy is a Giant, by Carl Norac.
The pride of a young boy who is growing up just like his daddy is evident in this look at their closeness. Clouds nap on this father's shoulders, birds nest in his hair and his hurricane sneezes blow the water in the sea away. This book perfectly captures the perspective of young readers, to whom most adults are giants.
- The Little Red Hen, traditional fairy tale.
The little red hen decides to plant some wheat, but the lazy cat, dog and rat won't help her! This book is a perfect introduction to fairy tales for preschoolers - this hardback book contains lots of funny rhythm and rhyme to delight young children.
